Day Trip to Montserrat

I’m going to do this post a little differently than normal.

See, we went to this magical place called Montserrat while we were in Barcelona.

I knew very little going into the day–I knew that we had to take a train an hour or so outside of town. I knew that it was a monastery up on a mountain and that it maybe had fantastic views depending on the day. I knew that we would take a cable car from the train station to the top of the mountain.

I didn’t know that it would hold my fondest memories of the trip. Or that it would be the most beautiful place I’ve been in a long time. Or that I would never want to leave.

So I’m going to leave you here with photos–no words. At Montserrat you can turn one way and see the Pyrenees. You can turn the other and see the Mediterranean Sea. There is a monastery. There is an art museum. There is a beautiful mile long stations of the cross out on the side of the mountain. There are flowers and hermit huts and paths so steep I don’t recommend scrambling them. There are places to hide and places to be lost in a sea of people. Take a picnic. Spend the day. It’s more than worth the trip.

Now, see, THIS is a good reason to get on an airplane for sixteen hours. :) So beautiful!

I’ll definitely have to remember Montserrat whenever Mark and I make it to Spain!
